This is why you moved here.
Our Mission
You moved from the midwest to the Big City to pursue your dreams of being an artist. You dreamed that your shiny college degree would be a kick ass wave-shredding boat that would propel you upstream through the river of hard work and painful rejection. You dreamed of trials, challenges, but always enduring and being victorious in the end. You dreamed of success and artistic fulfillment.
It is for that many winged thing that vibrates inside of you that you should check out the work of the cast of Artistic Abandon NYC. Come and be witness to artists like you who have struggled but continue to fight the good fight. Come and be(come) apart of a community who have done as you have: who have moved away from family and home to transform into what they were meant to be. Come get inspired. Come to keep the fire, (y)our fire, alive.
Artistic Abandon NYC is a vision come true for what an arts community in the competitive NYC performance world could be.
When Kate Lala moved to NYC in 2011 as a musical theatre college grad she gave up on her dream of performing in the big city quickly. The tradeoffs for pursuing the life of a performer in NYC came with even harsher conditions than the starving artist cliche prepared her for. She left the performance world for 2 years, but the buried dream couldn't be denied. She chose to create the artistic community she thought impossible and committed her life's work to inspiring and creating opportunities for artists so that they would never lose sight of their dream.
Artistic Abandon NYC produced it's inaugural cabaret in October of 2013 hosted at Galapagos Art Space in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The company continues to create cabarets for emerging performers, in addition to producing new showcases and works in various art mediums. Our goal is to create more platforms for performance in NYC and create a community of artists that collaborate and create fearlessly.
